Cherry Tennant

My work covers three broad themes - internal images, Australian scenes and floral works. In all of these, many layers of meaning can be discovered.

I specialise in stain painting, a process where paint is thinly applied in layers on unstretched unprimed canvas, creating a veil-like effect of translucent colour. The stain painting technique informs the final work – the ground having an active rather than passive role in what is being created.

This process also works well on stretched paper. Over time, I have expanded this method with the addition of a wide variety of media, which can include sand, pencils and water-soluble crayons. I also use sized unprimed linen, which gives wonderful textural effects.

My art draws on the rich heritage of life lived on several continents, where my works are in private and corporate collections. The often luminescent quality and spiritual content provide an experience in itself, making a visit to my Studio Gallery an artistic treat.

Do take a chance and drop in, as I am available throughout the year. If you need to be sure I am there, phone first.
