This process, where paint is thinly applied in layers on unstretched unprimed canvas, creates a veil-like effect of translucent colour, where the ground has an active role in what is being created. Cherry has expanded this method with the addition of a wide variety of materials, which can include sand, sawdust, paste, pencils, water soluble crayons, and sized unprimed linen which also gives strong textural effects.
